In keeping with the whole spirit of beach reading (someday I’ll tell you what I think of beaches), summer reading is supposed to be in the light reading category. But there are a few classics that I want to make sure I get to soon, so I’ve decided to intersperse them with some biographies of my favorite musicians. Here’s the list as of the first week of June, classics first:
- The Great Gatsby. Read it in high school. Haven’t read it since.
- The Violent Bear It Away. This was a gift from a retired professor of southern lit, so I want to get to it quickly.
- All the Pretty Horses – Cormac McCarthy.
- Re-Make/Re-Model: The Making of Roxy Music.
- Billion Dollar Bash. Seeing I’m Not There reawakened my interest in Dylan generally and in The Basement Tapes in particular.
- Across The Great Divide: The Band in America. Found this on the shelf at Borders. Ties in nicely with my new-found interest in The Basement Tapes.
Progress made:
Billion Dollar Bash – finished in June. Horrific spelling and typesetting errors repelled me at first, but I wound up enjoying it.
